The purpose of this site is to provide you with a brief outline of the Society, who we are, where we meet and what we do. We hope it will grow. But in the meantime, please feel free to come to our meetings as a guest, or contact any of us listed for help or more information.
The Society was founded in 1984 at the Booth Museum of Natural History, Brighton, and still our Headquarters. We have about 70 members in total, providing a wide range of backgrounds, interests, professions and ages. We have a calendar of meetings starting with our monthly meetings on the first Wednesday of each month from October to April. We invite speakers to talk on a wide variety of Earth Science topics. We also have a "Christmas Conglomerate" social meeting, a members' evening and AGM, as well as field meetings, museum visits etc. We are interested in just about anything geological, especially anything of significance to our local area, Brighton and Hove, the South Downs and Sussex in particular.
Our lecture meetings are usually held in the North Barn of the West Blatchington Windmill, in Hove. Some meetings for 2024-25 will be held online using Zoom
We produce a quarterly digital Newsletter through which we communicate our meetings programme, news, reviews, reports and articles of interest. We can also be found on Facebook.
